Boro Frit Blends Coe 33
One of the things that I have learned over the last four years by spending time on Lampworketc and Wet Canvas is that many soft glass artists want to try Borosilicate glass. Some are intimidated by the learning curve. I have launched a  line of Boro Frit Blends to make that curve less steep. These tested blends offer a recipe for success for those who are just starting out in Boro. For those who have been working in boro they offer something fun and new.  My recipes have been tested by myself and several other lampwork artists. I add new blends every few months so please bookmark this site and check back frequently. I am open to suggestions and I'm always available for questions, comments and advice.  I hope you love these blends as much as I do. I use only the finest Borosilicate glass commercially available. My blends are all made using Northstar Glass. Frit is available in 2 ounce jars and .5 oz sample sizes. Most of my blends are mixed sizes.  Frit is packaged in plastic jars and is measured by weight and not volume.  I have also added to the site what I feel are the best darn frit trays on the market (made by Carlisle Machine Works) so check those out too!!!

Emma's Emerald
My daughter is Emma and her birthstone is emerald. This one is for her.  This pendant was made over NS Silver Pearl. It was annealed at 1050 for 1 hour.  It's a rich blend of jewel tone greens approved by the little princess herself.  It is mixed size and reactive. Try it over butterscotch, caramel, and different greens and blues.

Jenny G's Spiffy Bead Cleaner

Cleaning beads in my house is no big deal and takes me about 10 minutes each morning.  I have never used a dremel. I don't even own one. In my fist class with Jennifer Geldard www.glassgirl.com she shared with us this method.  By using the substance sand paper is made from, silicon carbide, you can in effect turn your mandrel into a cleaning device. Simply remove the bead from the mandrel and clean the excess bead release from the mendrel. Now wet the clean mandrel you used to make the bead and dip it into the cleaner coating the botton inch or so. Now use the mandrel with the coating to clean the bead by inserting it back into the bead and scrubbing the release right out. Periodically rinse the bead under running water and repeat until the bead is spiffy and sparkly clean.  The average bead will take about 2 to 3 dips into the cleaner and a 4 oz jar should last a long time.  This method is just as effective as a dremel without the danger of breakage and chipping. It works on soft glass and boro.  Try it! You will never dremel another bead!

Rainbow Sand

Rainbow Sand
When my son was about 4 we took him to a carnival and he made one of those sand art in a bottle projects. He was very happy with his design. But by the time we got home he had shaken the bottle so much that all he had left was "rainbow sand". He told me it was ok he liked his rainbow sand and to this day that bottle sits proudly displayed on his bookcase.  When he saw me mixing up my new blends he said "wow that one looks just like my rainbow sand",  and so it does. The beads you will make with this blend are a fun carnival of color. It is an easy reactive blend in a mix of sizes. Be sure to shake up the jar before using it so the large and small grains mix up well. The large holed mandrel beads were made on a base of pink made with NS Yellow over NS Pomegrante and encased.  I LOVE them.  They were annealed at 1100 for 30 minutes.
