11/30/05 I was doing one of the many home bead parties that I have booked this time of year and I was asked about why I would want to make the beads for my jewelry when beads are so readily available. Don't I think I work hard enough in my day job that I really don't need to be up until all hours making beads at night? Well this is how I answered: In Clinical social work there are no finished products. People evolve and hopefully move towards mental health and happiness but I don't often get to see tangible evidence of that. In flameworking one merely needs to wait the completion of an annealing schedule to see the fruits of their labor, It's so gratifying. My day work is very fulfilling don't get me wrong, but there is a different sense of accomplishment in making art from fire and glass. It's as raw and primitive as it gets yet it allows one the meditative experience of the most advanced and recent theories in quiescence. And the extra cash ain't bad either.
