10/3/05 I've always been an independant sort. I've never let fear of the unknown stop me from moving ahead with whatever plan of action was necessary to get me where I needed to go. And so, in true form, I recently registered for a weekend lampworking class in New Jersey without much thought about the 5 hour drive each way and the 3 nights away from my family. Not just any class mind you but a class taught by Mr Boro Bead Magic himself, Doug Remschneider! Countdown, 10 days. Emotions at first were pure excitement but I'll admit as the date has drawn nearer I started thinking less about the lesson and more about the drive and the hotel stay : excitement and a little anxiety....and then it occurred to me. I have never driven 5 hours alone nor have I ever stayed in a hotel by myself! It's not that anxiety or fear has ever prevented this from happening but rather the opportunity has never come up. WOW how did I get to be middle age and not get to experience room service or a wakeup call alone? Well Hell, no wonder I'm nervous! I gotta break out more. So I'm back to pure excitement and a healthy touch of nerves, just enough to keep me on my gaurd so I can learn me some of that Boro bead magic and get back to my home torch safe and sound.
